Fall is in full swing, and I love it!
The weather is getting cooler, the leaves are changing, and the anticipation for the upcoming holiday season is growing more by the day.
Being from Florida, we never get a fall, so hanging out in Pennsylvania and Virginia around this time of year has been a TREAT!
Experiencing a true fall has made me realize that I would love to live in a place that experiences all four seasons.
It’s funny because whenever I tell this to someone who’s lived in 4 seasons their whole lives, there are two responses:
- I love having the different seasons
- WINTER IS THE WORST
Being a Floridian born and raised, I’ve never had to deal with a full-blown-out winter – even though I did live in Germany for the beginning of one winter. I want to think that I could take it, though.
I’d love to hear your opinion about the four seasons! Which one is your favorite? Leave me a comment below!
I mean, y’all already know my answer: FALL IS WHERE IT’S AT Y’ALL!
And that’s why I’m coming to you with some of my newly discovered fall favorites – Close to Creation style.
Since Close to Creation is all about getting outside and enjoying the outdoors, I wanted to create a list of fall outdoor activities to help inspire you to get out and soak up the season’s beauty. Check it out below!
Activities For Fall – Close to Creation Style ↓
Go on a hike
There’s something extra special about hiking in the fall – the air is crisp, the leaves are changing, and my favorite part: you’re not sweating through one layer of clothing. If you have no idea what hikes are near you, use the AllTrails app!
Go for a bike ride
Bike rides are always a good idea, especially in cooler weather. If you’re not feeling up for a walk/hike, grab a bike and explore your town.
Go on a picnic
I LOVE a good picnic. It’s one of my favorite things to do for a date day/night. Not in a relationship? Invite a friend you haven’t seen in a while. Make sure to pack in all your fall favorites!
Take a stroll through your local park
Walking doesn’t have to be all about speed! Taking a stroll through your local park can be a great way to get outside, enjoy the fall scenery, and get your steps in.
Weekend Road Trip
I think it’s finally time to visit that national park an hour or two from you that you’ve been dying to explore. Not a national park anywhere remotely close to you? State parks can be just as beautiful!
Visit your local farmers’ market
Farmers’ markets are a year-round favorite because I love the idea of shopping local – especially when buying produce. Instead of getting your fruits and veggies at Walmart, stroll through the farmers market and support the local farmers. And don’t forget to find some fall-colored flowers to decorate your house!
Apple picking
I feel like this is a northern pastime. Since I grew up in Florida, our fruit-picking pastime included oranges, not apples, but the excitement of picking fruit remains the same. It’s such a fun experience to bring home the fruit you worked to get!
Host a bonfire party
Fall is the perfect time to cook hobo packs or roast s’mores with some of your favorite people. Not feeling a party? Then have your own bonfire! Who says you need more than one person for it to be a party?
Go camping
Imagine this: you wake up to the crisp morning air and open your tent to see a beautiful scene – hundreds of trees with the most vibrant orange, red, and yellow leaves. It sounds like a dream! There’s something magical about camping in the fall as the leaves change color.
Pick out the perfect pumpkin at a pumpkin patch
If you’re picking out your pumpkin at Walmart, you can do so much better than that! Get out and find a local pumpkin patch! Not only do you get to go on a scavenger hunt for the best pumpkin, but you’re getting outdoors and enjoying the cooler air at the same time. And come on, I know you’re dying to get a classic fall flannel picture at the pumpkin patch – here’s your chance!
Carve a pumpkin
Would it really be fall if you didn’t carve a pumpkin? Logically speaking, yes, but it wouldn’t feel the same if you didn’t! So after you go to the pumpkin patch and find the perfect pumpkin, it’s only right to carve it (or, if you’re super fancy, paint it) and show it off on your front porch.
Attend a fall festival
Fall festivals are a great way to get out and celebrate the season. Fall food favorites, fun games, live music, and more – there’s something for everyone to enjoy!
Go on a hayride
While at the fall festival or picking out your pumpkin at the patch, don’t forget to enjoy a nice hayride. If you’re feeling extra daring, do one at night!
Successfully finish a corn maze
Do you have what it takes to take on a corn maze? Better yet, do you have what it takes to finish one successfully? Invite your friends and family to take on the challenge with you.
Run a 5k
Fall is the perfect time to get out and run that 5k you’ve wanted to run for a while now! Whether it’s Halloween-themed or a Turkey Trot, 5ks are always fun around this time of year (and they’ll help you get moving amidst all the candy and stuffing eating).
Go for a drive
Who says you have to go on a hike to see the fall foliage? Taking a scenic drive can be just as beautiful. And seeing the leaves from the warmth and comfort of your vehicle is a plus too!
Go to a football game
You don’t have to pay hundreds of dollars to see a football game (unless you want to, of course). So instead, check out your local high school and enjoy the cooler weather under the Friday night lights. Maybe it will even bring back some memories of the good old days.
These are all my fall favorites! Do you have any to add to this list? Let me know in the comment section below. I always love hearing y’all’s feedback!
I hope this list inspires you to get outside and enjoy all fall has to offer.
And for my fellow Floridians (and other places who don’t get to experience fall), I’m sorry. But at least you can still decorate like it’s fall and go all out for Halloween!
I know it’s not the same, but I hope y’all can find some enjoyment front the somewhat “cooler” temps – hey, at least it’s not 100 degrees like it is in the summer, right?
Anywho, that’s all for this week! I hope you have a great rest of your week, and I look forward to meeting you back here next Wednesday.
Until next time, friend,
Kaitlin ☼
